The word private covers a car that waits for you, a guided island day for your group alone and a boat that sails only with your party. Six listings show what each one gives you and what they leave out.

Facts on one screen
Listings use the word in three different ways. Some state a private group outright, as the private East and West day does, and as the private car hire does. Others advertise private or small groups as an option on a day that also sells shared places, as the East and West highlights day does. A third kind carries private in its title and describes something else once you read the notes.
The clearest example is a snorkel and land tour whose title says private. Its good-to-know section describes a group snorkeling tour that caps the boat at 13 participants, even though the same listing talks of a boat reserved for your tour. It lists from $90 and is rated 4.91 from 2,593 reviews, so it is clearly popular, but it is worth emailing the operator to ask exactly who else will be on the boat before you pay.
For any Nusa Penida private tour, a practical test is to check the group-size line near the top of the listing, then read the notes for any maximum number of guests, then see whether the price is quoted per person or for the vehicle. Your party's exact total appears on the booking page. Listings here are named from their records, and a from price is a starting point, not a quote for your date.
Private options laid out
| Option | Length | From price | What stays outside |
|---|---|---|---|
| Car with driver | 6 to 8 hours | $27 | Boat and entrance tickets |
| Car charter | 6 to 8 hours | $26 | The boat from Bali |
| Private East and West | 8 to 10 hours | $42 | Not stroller accessible |
| Private boat snorkel | 3 to 4 hours | $64 | Mantas not guaranteed |
| Private full-day snorkel | 5 to 7 hours | $90 | Mantas not guaranteed |
| Premium yacht day | 9 to 10 hours | $96 | Rescheduled in unsafe seas |
All prices are from prices; a car or boat listing may price the vehicle, a tour listing the person, so the unit is checked on the booking page.
The simplest private day is a car and a driver who stays with you. One listing lists from $27 for 6 to 8 hours, rated 4.76 from 2,571 reviews, with a driver who speaks English and Indonesian. Half a day is up to 6 hours and a full day up to 8, the vehicle takes a maximum of 5 passengers, and each extra hour costs IDR 100,000, paid in cash.
What is not in the price matters as much. The listing says entrance tickets and activities are not included, and neither is the boat from Bali to Nusa Penida. The day starts on the island, which means you cross by your own ticket first. A second private charter says the same thing in its own words: the trip starts from Nusa Penida, not from Bali, and lists from $26 for 6 to 8 hours.
The listing is also frank about the ground. It says road conditions on Nusa Penida can be uneven and bumpy, and that not all suggested attractions can be visited in one trip. That second warning is useful. Ask your driver for two or three priorities, not eight, and let the order follow the roads and the light.
What private costs
Each figure is the listing's from price; whether it is per person or per vehicle differs by listing, so check at checkout.
If you would rather not arrange the crossing, the private East and West highlights day packs it in. It lists from $42, is rated 4.66 from 161 reviews, and gives you a live guide in English on an 8 to 10 hour day. The crossing is by speedboat for 50 minutes each way, with a car for 30 minutes at each end of the day.
The stops run in a fixed order. After the boat the listing names Angel's Billabong, Pasih Uug (Broken Beach) and Kelingking Beach, 20 minutes each, then lunch at a local restaurant, then Diamond Beach and Atuh Beach at 20 minutes each. A short stop at Kelingking is a photo stop, and the steep way down to the sand is not part of it.2 If you want to walk down to a beach, ask your guide to lengthen one stop and drop another.
The same listing says the tour involves a considerable amount of walking and stairs and is not stroller or wheelchair accessible. It also says the tour may be canceled for extreme weather or unforeseen events, with a different date or a refund offered. The booking carries free cancellation until 24 hours before the start.

Manta snorkeling and land tour
On the water the options stretch from a few hours to most of a day. A private boat snorkeling tour lasts 3 to 4 hours and lists from $64, visiting The Wall, Gamat Bay, Crystal Bay and Manta Bay for 30 minutes apiece. A private full-day version lists from $90, lasts 5 to 7 hours and adds a 45-minute speedboat in each direction and a 1-hour lunch.
The premium yacht day is the long one. It lists from $96, runs 9 to 10 hours with a live guide in English, Indonesian or French, and has a private group option. The listing says the yacht was newly built in 2026, and that the tour may be rescheduled or refunded in case of government restrictions, unsafe sea conditions or severe weather. Manta sightings are common by the listing's own wording but cannot be fully guaranteed.
Whatever you choose, the sea writes the itinerary. Two of these listings say manta rays are not guaranteed, and one says the itinerary may be adjusted at the last minute for the strong swells. A private boat gives you a say in the timing, but it cannot move the weather, and snorkeling needs basic swimming ability.
A private day, stop by stop
Start
A 30-minute car ride from your pickup point to the boat.
Crossing
The listing puts the crossing at 50 minutes in each direction.
West side
Angel's Billabong, Pasih Uug (Broken Beach) and Kelingking Beach, 20 minutes each.
Midday
The listing places a lunch between the West and East stops.
East side
Two more 20-minute stops after the lunch break.
Return
A second 50-minute crossing and a 30-minute car ride to drop-off.
Between shared and private sits the small group. The East Highlights day with a tree house stop is limited to 5 participants, lists from $165 and lasts 8 hours with pickup included. The listing's stops are a viewpoint, Diamond Beach and Teletubbies Hill, an hour each, with transfers of about 1 hour at each end.
It is the east of the island only, so it is a different day from the West Land tours. Access to the tree house viewpoint is an extra IDR 75,000 per person and optional. Pickups cover Ubud, Canggu, Nusa Dua and Kerobokan as well as Kuta, Legian, Seminyak, Jimbaran and Sanur. The comparison with a shared day is stark: the East and West highlights day starts from $31, and its small groups are an option, not the rule.
Group size is the thing you are buying. If a quiet ride, a flexible pace and a guide who is yours matter, five people in a vehicle is a very different day from a large shared one, and the price gap reflects it. If you are happy to be one of a group, the savings buy the same viewpoints.

Upon arrival on the island, the primary transportation option is to rent a motorbike or car, either with a driver or without.
Ask the operator before paying
The ministry's wording is plain: on arrival, the main way to get around is to rent a motorbike or car, with or without a driver.1 A news report put scooter rental on Nusa Penida from Rp60,000 to Rp100,000 a day.3 That is the cheapest way to move, and also the one that puts you on the island's steep, hilly and in places rocky trails yourself.1
A driver changes the day in practice. The private car listing is a six to eight hour package for up to 5 passengers, and the guide on the East and West day is on the same car all day. A scooter fits one or two riders and leaves every decision to you. Beyond comfort, the descent at Kelingking is steep and dangerous according to the ministry, a reason to read each stop's own notes.2
Pick by who is in your party. A family with young children or a group of friends of mixed fitness is usually better served by a car and driver, and a couple who like to wander may prefer two wheels. Whichever you choose, the Bali levy of Rp150,000 per person paid once and the island ticket of Rp25,000 per adult are separate from any tour price unless the listing states otherwise.4,5
